Chemical science become increasingly interdisciplinary and at the focal point of various fundamental scientific queries due to its diversity. Our department wishes to provide high level quality teaching along with state of art research to cultivate curious and inventive scholars such that they become competent enough to face the global challenges from academic perspective as well as from industry. Department of chemistry currently offers M.Sc. Chemistry and Ph.D. The diverse qualifications of the faculty members ensure expertise in all facet of chemistry as well as in various interdisciplinary areas. Department ensures academic flexibility and good deal of faculty-student interaction. We have introduced Choice Based Credit System as per the UGC mandate in PG course. Project work and seminar presentation are introduced in all courses to get an overview of the ongoing research and recent development in the subject. Developments of new methodology in organic/inorganic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, biophysical chemistry, quantum chemistry, polymer chemistry, material chemistry, nanoscience and nanotechnology, etc. are the present thrust areas of research in the department.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  • Achieve the understanding of the basics and emerging techniques of a broad range of computer science and engineering concepts.
  • Gain the ability to analyze and solve computational problems through application of fundamental knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
  • Learn to apply modern skills, techniques, and engineering tools to create next generation Computational Environments.

Program Specific Outcomes(PSOs):

  • Professional Skills: Attain the ability to design and develop hardware and software based systems, evaluate and recognize potential risks and provide creative solutions.
  • Successful Career and Entrepreneurship: Gain knowledge in diverse areas of Computer Science and experience an environment conducive in cultivating skills for successful career, entrepreneurship and higher studies.
M.Sc in Chemistry

Duration: 2 Years

Eligibility: Candidates from Universities of West Bengal with B.Sc. (H) in relevant discipline are eligible. Candidates from other states should have a minimum of 50%* marks in Chemistry along with 45%* marks in aggregate.

Selection Procedure: Through JIS University online examination.

PhD in Chemistry

Duration: 3-4 Years

Eligibility: M.Sc in relavant stream

Faculty

The faculty members are from reputed universities and research institutes like IACS, IITs, JU, CU, BU, and KU etc. They are quite experienced in teaching and very much active in pursuing research. They regularly attend national and international seminars and conferences to present their project outcome.

Laboratory

The laboratory is well equipped with instruments, chemicals, glassware’s, to run practical classes and projects smoothly.

Research

We have already in progress to develop state-of-the-art research infrastructure in various areas of chemical sciences. Current thrust areas of research in the department includes: developments of new synthetic methodology, supramolecular chemistry, molecular recognition, polymer chemistry, material science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, etc.

Distinguished Visitors

Academicians from different reputed institute often visit the campus to deliver lectures on their respective fields and topics on common interest.

Library

We have a rich collection of books for students and faculties in library. There are reading room facilities and books are also lent to students on short and long term basis.

  3. STUDENTS MAY PURSUE B. TECH. AND M. TECH. DEGREE IN DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF TECHNOLOGY SUCH AS CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY, POLYMER TECHNOLOGY, RUBBER TECHNOLOGY, CHEMICAL ENGINEERING ETC. THAT EVENTUALLY MAKE THEM SUITABLE FOR DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES
  4. STUDENTS CAN ALSO APPEAR FOR NET/GATE/SET ETC. AND BECOME ELIGIBLE FOR TEACHING POSTS OR OPT FOR A RESEARCH CAREER AT VARIOUS RENOWNED NATIONAL LABORATORIES LIKE IISERS, IISC, IITS, CSIRS, IACS, BARC, DRDO, NTPC, NITS ETC.
