M.Sc. Biotechnology offers promising career prospects in India and abroad. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary science encompassing biology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Graduates can work in various fields such as agriculture, medicine and healthcare, industrial research, environmental research and development, and animal husbandry.

  • Vision
    The vision of the Department of Biotechnology is to create a niche in different areas of biological sciences, and produce competent individual who can tackle problems in both academic and industrial sectors and solve a wide array of problems in a global society.
  • Mission
    • M1 – The mission of the department is to prepare students in multidisciplinary fields with emphasis on training and research in Biotechnology and Microbiology.
    • M2 – To offer quality education so that students can interlink between basic and applied science along with focus on industry-based problems.
    • M3 – To provide hands on training courses in the rapidly advancing field of biological sciences along with emphasis on Entrepreneurship skill development programs.
    • M4 – To make students aware of professional ethics that arise from research to testing and development of the product.
  • PEO
    • PEO 1 – To impart knowledge, skills and solid foundation related to the fundamentals of Biotechnology.
    • PEO 2 – To identify, design and innovate solutions for Biotechnological problems related to societal improvement and to pursue higher studies in institutions of repute.
    • PEO 3 – To train students to apply cutting edge tools to create novel products and to solve modern-day challenges in the society for human welfare.
    • PEO 4 – To inculcate in students ethical and professional attitude, teamwork and communication skills.

Eligibility

Minimum 50% marks in respective BSc course plus JET (JIS University Entrance Exam).

With a Master's degree in Biotechnology, candidates can secure positions in both corporate and government sectors. Biotechnologists are in demand in pharmaceutical companies, chemical industries, bioprocessing industries, agriculture-related industries, and pollution control industries in India and internationally. They are also eligible for research jobs in various research and development departments. In India, some prestigious organizations require candidates to have qualified national-level entrance exams like DBT BET, CSIR NET, GATE, ARS NET, and ICMR JRF.
