Dr Ranjan Chakrabarti (MA, Ph.D. JU,), Hony Professor of History at Jadavpur University and Professor and Director of Research at Swami Vivekananda University, was previously Vice-Chancellor of Vidyasagar University, West Bengal (2011-2021) and Netaji Subhas Open University (2022-23). Professor Chakrabarti is an acclaimed environmental historian with international reputation. He is a former Post-doctoral Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Brown University, USA (1994-95), and a recipient of the prestigious Charles Wallace Fellowship at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London), the Alexander O’Vietor Memorial Fellowship at Brown University and twice recipient of the Alfred Bell Memorial Fellowship at the Forest History Society (Duke University, USA) He is a former member of the editorial board of Global Environment (Italy www.globalenvironment.it) and currently a member of the editorial board of the international journal Climates and Cultures in History, https://www.whp-journals.co.uk/CCH (White Horse Press, UK). At different points of his career, he visited and/or held prestigious Visiting assignments at Brown University, London University, Roskilde University (Denmark), Maison des Sciences L’Homme, Paris, Sciences Po, Paris, Centre of South Asian Studies (SOAS, London), Australian National University in Canberra, Sydney University of Technology, West Virginia University, Morgantown (USA), Peking University, China, Tsing Hua University, China and several other institutions in India and abroad.
