UV Visible Spectrophotometer
It is used for the determination of impurities in organic molecules. It is useful in the structure elucidation of organic molecules, such as in detecting the presence or absence of un-saturation, the presence of hetero atoms. UV absorption spectroscopy can be used for the quantitative determination of compounds that absorb UV radiation. UV absorption spectroscopy can characterize those types of compounds which absorbs UV radiation thus used in qualitative determination of compounds. Identification is done by comparing the absorption spectrum with the spectra of known compounds. This technique is used to detect the presence or absence of functional group in the compound. Kinetics of reaction can also be studied using UV spectroscopy. Drugs (either raw or in formulations) can be assayed by making a suitable solution of the drug in a solvent and measuring the absorbance at specific wavelength. Molecular weights of compounds can be measured UV spectrophotometer may be used as a detector for HPLC.
FTIR
FTIR is used to investigate proteins in hydrophobic membrane environments. It is useful in the structure elucidation of organic molecules. Typical studies include analysing tissue sections as an alternative to conventional histopathology and examining the homogeneity of pharmaceutical tablets. The speed of FTIR allows spectra to be obtained from compounds as they are separated by a gas chromatograph. Measuring the gas evolved as a material is heated allows qualitative identification of the species to complement the purely quantitative information provided by measuring the weight loss.
Lyophilizer
It is often used to increase the shelf life of products, such as vaccines and other injectable. By removing the water from the material and sealing the material in a vial. Freeze-drying is used to preserve food and make it very light weight. The freeze-drying process is used more commonly in the pharmaceutical industry. In chemical synthesis, products are often lyophilized to make them more stable, or easier to dissolve in water for subsequent use. In bio separations, freeze-drying can be used also as a late- stage purification procedure. Also it is capable of concentrating substances with low molecular weights that are too small to be removed by a filtration membrane. Freeze drying is also used for floral preservation and wedding bouquet preservation has become very popular with brides who want to preserve their wedding day flowers.
Single Station tablet punching machine
A single station tablet press is a simple mechanical machine that can be used to compress powder into tablets that are uniform in size, shape and weight. The machine is used for low-volume production of tablets for a wide range of applications from cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to cleaning products.
Tablet Coating Machine
It is used to coat the tablets which servers number of purposes. It gives an elegant look to the tablets. Mask unpleasant taste and odor of the tablets. Coating protects the tablet from stomach acids and protects the stomach lining from aggressive drugs such as enteric coated aspirin. It provides a delayed release of the medicaments.
Tray Dryer
It is used for the drying of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, powders, granules, plastic granules etc. Also used for drying of food and confectionery products.
Student's Organ Bath
Student Organ Bath is a chamber in which isolated organs or tissues can be administered with drugs, or stimulated electrically, in order to measure their function. It is used in pharmacology research, particularly when studying the contraction of smooth muscle in tissues such as ileum, colon, vas deferens, trachea, bladder, corpus cavernosum etc. For studying the effects of drugs on receptors in drug discovery and combinatorial chemistry, novel techniques such as high throughput screening, ultrahigh throughput screening and high content screening, pharmacogenomics, proteomics and array technology have largely superseded the use of organ baths.
Digital Actophotometer
Actophotometer is an apparatus used in pharmacological laboratory to measure the locomotor activity (horizontal activity) by photoelectric cells which are connected in circuit with a counter. When the beam of light falling on the photo cell is cut off by the animal, a count is recorded. An actophotometer could have either circular or square arena in which the animal moves. Both rats & mice may be used for testing in this equipment. The activity of CNS depressant or stimulant drugs can be measured by the help of this apparatus.
Cook’s Pole Climbing Apparatus
Cook’s pole climbing apparatus is one of the important apparatus in a pharmacology laboratory setup. This apparatus helps us to study the antipsychotic drugs. It has three types of indicator (Light, sound, ability of climbing on a pole) to identify the level of anti-psychotic effects of drugs.
Digital ECG Machine
ECG machine (electrocardiograph) is medical equipment or medical device which measures and records the electrical activity of the heart. ECG leads or electrodes are placed to the patient with the help of Conductive ECG Jelly. This apparatus is used in anatomy & physiology lab and as well as in pharmacology laboratory to detect the various heart waves to identify the underlying cardiac problems.
